If you spend long hours at a computer, your eyes need twice the care. They're strained by constantly focusing on the screen, and blue light disrupts your sleep. So get glasses that help reduce all these effects.
Talk to your optician about computer glasses
The first step in buying the right computer glasses is a consultation with your optician. If you decide to buy your glasses from us, you're always welcome. We'll test your eyes without an appointment at all our branches in Prague, free of charge when you order new prescription glasses. We also offer eye tests on their own for a fee, with no need to buy anything. Our final recommendation includes several options, each with a specific price quote . That makes it easy to choose the best value for money.
Always choose glasses with an anti-reflective coating
Choose prescription computer glasses with an anti-reflective coating. Anti-reflective computer glasses have several advantages:
- no unnatural mirroring on the spectacle lenses,
- less glare,
- your eyes look more natural,
- you see more clearly and with more contrast,
- the lenses don't scratch easily.
Looking after anti-reflective lenses is also very easy. Use a special glasses cleaner, or simply washing-up liquid and a microfibre cloth will do. Every so often, pop into an optician's to have your glasses cleaned ultrasonically.
Choose lightweight glasses
It might not occur to you straight away, but the weight of your glasses really matters. Heavy computer glasses can become very uncomfortable over a full day. Not to mention that they'll press behind your ears and leave marks on the bridge of your nose. For all-day computer work, choose glasses that are as light as possible. The best material for this is titanium. As well as being light, it's durable and corrosion-resistant.
Varifocal glasses let you see at every distance
Varifocal glasses are technologically very advanced and let you see close up, far awayand at intermediate distances. The zones blend smoothly into one another with no visible lines. What does that mean? With a single pair of glasses you can work on a computer, read and also look around you. You don't need to take your glasses off or swap them to look into the distance. If you're not used to this type of glasses, you may feel a little queasy, dizzy or unsteady at first. Don't worry, it soon passes. Try not to focus on the glasses too much and turn your attention elsewhere.
A blue light filter helps you sleep better
Computer glasses with blue light protection block light from computer, phone and TV screens. Why is blue light such a problem? These light sources interfere with melatonin (the sleep hormone) and tell your brain that it's day, not night. Blue light is to blame for:
- poor sleep,
- taking a long time to fall asleep,
- difficulty concentrating,
- a slow metabolism,
- a weakened immune system,
- cardiovascular problems.
If you spend several hours a day at a computer or looking at your phone, protective computer glasses with a blue light filter are just right for you. Don't need a prescription but still want to protect your eyes? The blue light filter is also available in non-prescription computer glasses.
